Structured as a lab course, the fundamental perception, concept and method of graphic design will be introduced through a series of set projects and exercises. We will explore how graphic design can engage, inform and challenge the viewer as well as how the design of visual communication is influenced by social, political and cultural issues. Through lectures, slide presentations, assignments and class discussions, we will examine the formal aspects of typography, the relationship between type and image, and the impact of new technologies on design practices today will be examined.
